Two suspected robbers involved in a number of early-morning snatchings in south Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur area were injured in an encounter with the police in Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here today.
Rahul and Furqan, suspected to be involved in the incidents yesterday in Kotla Mubarakpur, were injured in the encounter in Hapur late last night, the Delhi Police officer said.
The duo were riding a car, when they were stopped by a police team. An encounter began when they tried to escape, the officer said, adding that a policeman was also hit by a bullet fired by them.
Rahul hailed from Bulandshahr in UP and Furqan from Hisar in Haryana. The car used by them was stolen from Delhi, he said.
Three snatching cases by armed bike-borne men within half an hour were reported to police from Kotla Mubarakpur.
Three more suspects have been detained for questioning in connection with the cases. The police were trying to verify the number of accused involved in the cases, the officer said.
