Two vendors were today allegedly abducted by Naxals from a village in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said.

The vendors, identified as Jetti Ramkrishna (45) and Vemula Sathish (25), were held hostage by the rebels from Yampur village weekly market under Pamed police station limits, a senior police official told PTI.

As per preliminary information, the victims are natives of Telangana. They were apparently warned by ultras last week not to enter Bijapur for vending.

However, defying the warnings, they arrived at Yampur following which they were held captive, the official said.

Security forceshave been rushed to search the area where the incident was reported.

No communication has yet been received about the duo's whereabouts, he added.
