Goa Police rescued two women who claimed to have entered into prostitution due to their poor financial condition, an official said Thursday.
The women, who are in their early 20s and hail from Mumbai and Odisha, were loitering near the Calangute beach in North Goa district on Wednesday when they were picked up for questioning, police inspector Jivba Dalvi said.
The police suspect that they were trying to solicit customers near the beach.
When quizzed at the Calangute police station, the two women claimed that the poor financial condition of their families back home forced them into flesh trade, Dalvi said.
They were later shifted to a state-run protection home, he added.
