2 youths drown, another swept away

Two youths were drowned and another went missing after being swept away in river Sankh in Odisha's Sundargarh district, police said today.

The incident took place yesterday afternoon when five youths, part of a group picnicking on the river bed near Kansbahal, went for a bath.

While two of them managed to come out, three persons went missing.

During search operation, bodies of two youth - identified as Md. Taslim and Md. Sadam Ali of Rajgangpur town - were recovered, Inspector In-Charge of Brahmanitarang police station, Updndra Pradhan said.

The search for the third missing person by fire brigade personnel and divers was in progress, he said.
 

For smooth search operation authorities at Mandira reservoir have been asked to close dam gates to check release of water into the river, Pradhan said.
