Manish and Sameer, both aged 26 years, were detained after they allegedly did not make way for the convoy of Dikshit and refused to listen to police's instructions.

The incident took place in Mukherjee Nagar at around 11:15 am. Dikshit was on way to Burari to inaugurate Urs camp for pilgrims of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in Ajmer when the incident took place.

"The Chief Minister's car was behind them. The personnel in the escort vehicles signalled the men in the car to give way but they did not. Later they had to be forcefully stopped," a senior police official said.

The official said they had to detain the youths to ascertain their antecedents and motive.

"They were questioned by officials of Intelligence Bureau and Special Cell," the official said, adding experts from bomb disposal squad also checked the vehicle.

The official said the youths' antecedents were checked and after police gave an all-clear signal, they were released from detention.

"They told us they did it inadvertently," the official said.
