20,324 constables of the civil police were today transferred.

These transfers have been carried out through a transparent method as per the new policy of the state government, in which the constables and head constables would now be able to get postings around their home districts, principal secretary home, R M Srivastava and DGP, A C Sharma said in a joint press conference.

Earlier, constables and head constables were not posted in and around their home districts which was leading to some problems, they said.

The officials hoped that this step would have a positive impact on policing and further improve law and order of the state.

The new government in its first cabinet meeting had taken the decision in this regard and had sought options from the constables through a web enabled nominal roll system software.

Almost 85 per cent constables have been posted in their first place of choice in a totally transparent manner, the officials said.

Some 20 to 22 thousand constables have also been transferred earlier by respective IGs and DIGs at the zone and range levels, they said.

The officials said that transfers of some 6,000 head constables of armed police would also be carried out soon.
