20 injured as demonstration turns violent

Around 20 people, including some policemen, were injured today when demonstrators, favouring quota in promotions, at Jantar Mantar turned violent, police said.

"Around 1,500 protesters under the banner of Aarakshan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti (ABSS) were protesting today at Jantar Mantar. When the protesters tried to march towards the Parliament, we tried to stop them. Some protesters started pelting stones. Around 20 people from both sides were injured in the clash," said a senior police official.

Inspector S S Rana suffered head injuries in the incident and his situation is said to be critical. All the injured were taken to RML Hospital were they are being treated, police said.
 

ABSS is an association of state employees' unions favouring quota in promotions.
