At least twenty villagers have been beaten up by extremists of a Maoist splinter group in Jharkhand's Koderma district for refusing to serve food, the police said today.

Koderma Superintendent of Police Y S Ramesh said operatives of the Trititya Prastuti Committee (TPC) came from neighbouring Gaya district of Bihar to Bendi village yesterday and demanded food.

When the villagers refused to obey their diktat, the ultras beat up twenty villagers, he said adding some of the injured were treated in a nearby hospital and sent home.

Asked whether TPC was making inroads in Koderma district, the SP said neither the Maoists nor the TPC have any camp in Koderma district.
