200 ml pus imperils cat's life, fluid removed, pet saved

A four-year-old female cat which had an abnormal quantity of 200 ml pus in its uterus due to an infection was saved after a surgical procedure at the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals veterinary clinic here.

"The pet cat had uterus full of pus (pyometra) which is a serious and life threatening infection," Dr R Sokkalingam, veterinary surgeon of SPCA told PTI adding though the infection was not very rare the quantity of pus was uncommon.

"It had 200 to 225 ml of pus..Which is not seen normally in cat pyometra cases..This cat was saved after its uterus was removed," he said.
 

The cat had been exhibiting symptoms including vomitting and an aversion for taking food. It was brought to the SPCA clinic by its owner.

"Today, the cat has begun taking liquids like milk." The surgery was done free of cost which would cost about Rs.10,000 in private clinics, he added.
