Setting a target of preparing two thousand small solar energy producers in the state by 2016, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has said it will not only create new entrepreneurs but also boost power generation.

Announcing this while reviewing different programmes being run by Uttarakhand Renewable Development Agency here yesterday, Rawat said to translate this vision into a reality, subsidy will be given for solar power plants with a capacity up to five kilowatt and marketing facilities will be provided for the power generated by them.

An industry will also be set up with the help of SIDCUL at Bhimtal and Kotdwar to manufacture solar panels, he said.

Underlining resolution of drinking water and power shortage problems as the priorities of the state government, Rawat said special efforts will have to be made to achieve the goal.

A scheme for distributing dish solar cookers among housewives all over the state should also be launched, the CM added.
