21 held for cop's death during teachers morcha in Maha

Aurangabad police today arrested 21 persons in connection with the death of a Mumbai railway police head constable who died during violence at a teachers' morcha in Aurangabad.

Those arrested were sent to police custody for five days, police said.

The teachers were protesting near the venue of the Maharashtra Cabinet meeting at the Aurangabad divisional commissionerate yesterday.

Tributes were paid to the policeman, Rahul Kamble (50), at the Aurangabad police commissionerate today.

Senior police officials and local MLA Imtiaz Jaleel laid wreath on the policeman's body, which was later taken to Mumbai for the last rites.

The violent incident took place when members of the 'Wina Anudan Shala Kriti Samiti Morcha' (unaided schools' action committee morcha) and other organisations were protesting against the Maharashtra government for allegedly turning a blind eye to the demands of teachers in unaided schools.
