BSF today seized 21 kg heroin worth Rs 21 crore in the international market, which was smuggled in by alleged Pakistani nationals along the Indo-Pak border here.

However, the smugglers, who had hurled packets of the drug across the border fence into Indian territory, managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

BSF DIG R S Kataria said that incident took place around 3:30 AM when a BSF night patrol party noticed suspicious movement near a Border Outpost along the Indo-Pak border.

The BSF personnel immediately rushed to the spot and saw some Pakistani smugglers throwing packets towards the Indian side, he said.

When BSF troops challenged the smugglers, they were met with gun shots.

The border troops then returned the fire, but the smugglers escaped.

The DIG said when a search operation was launched in the morning, 21 heroin packets (of 1 kg each) and one loaded shot gun of Italian make were seized.
