22 Maoists surrender before police in Vizag

Twenty two militia members, including a woman, belonging to CPI (Maoist), surrendered before Visakhapatnam Rural Police here today.

They told the police that they gave up arms because they were disillusioned with the Maoist way of life.

Superintendent of Police (Visakha Rural) Vikram Jeet Duggal told a press conference here that the surrendered Maoists belonged to Mukudapalli and Kindangi villages under Koyyuru police station limits and Pothurajugummalu village of G K Veedhi police station limits in Vizag agency.

According to police, they were involved in activities like blocking the roads by cutting trees, pasting Maoist banners and posters, supplying food to red rebels, among others.
 

Five other Maoists identified as Korra Bhaskara Rao, T Ganga Raju, G Raju of Mukudupalli, S Krupa Rao of Pothurajugummalu and S Babu Rao of Kindangi village, were arrested by police.

Some more militia members and Maoists likely to surrender in the coming few days, Duggal said.
