22-year-old Dalit girl abducted, raped on pretext of marriage

A 22-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a youth, who abducted her on the pretext of marriage and held her captive at a relatives house for over a month, police said today.

The accused Pawan Kumar (23) of Maseet village has been booked on charges of kidnapping, rape, wrongful confinement, administering sedatives and criminal intimidation on a complaint filed by the victim, who is a resident of Gindokhar village, they said.

According to the police, the victim, a student of a private college in Bodia Kamalpur village, about 11 km from Rewari, had been abducted on July five, as per a complaint filed by her family members.
 

The accused enticed the victim on the pretext of marriage, abducted and confined her at his relatives house in Bodia Kamalpur village, administered some sedatives following which he continued to rape her over the past one month, police said.

The girl somehow managed to escape and reached her village today, they said, adding that she was sent for medical examination at a local civil hospital.

A senior police official said efforts were on to apprehend Pawan, who is absconding.
