A 23-year-old tiger suffering from old age-related problems died today at the rescue centre in Bannerghatta National Park here.

"Raja" succumbed to old age and related health problems as the big cat was not fully responding to treatment, Bannerghatta Biological Park Executive Director N Devaraj said in a statement here.

It was rescued from Asiad Circus at Bijanur in Uttaranchal on June 8, 2001 and was 10 years old when he was brought to the rescue centre, he said.

The visceral samples have been collected and sent to The Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals (IAH&VB) for clinical examination, Devraj said.
