A 23-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at her residence in Kakadev area here, police said today.
Neelam, daughter of a police inspector, locked herself in her room last night and took the extreme step by hanging from a ceiling fan, they said.
According to the police, the girl's family had arranged her meeting with a boy for marriage but three days prior to the meeting she committed suicide.
The girl's family told police that she was feeling stressed-out because of the meeting. They also said that she was caught crying several times after having arguments over the phone.
Police is suspecting that the girl wanted to marry someone else, they said.
Her father is an inspector at Kakadev area in Farrukhabad district, police said.
The girl's mobile phone has been seized, they said, adding that her body has been sent for post-mortem.
