A 23-year-old security guard died and another suffered severe injuries when a speeding truck rammed into the guards' room at AIIMS entrance in the wee hours today.

The deceased, identified as Sandeep Kumar, had joined duty earlier this month and was about to get married in December. He was deployed at the AIIMS entrance in South Extension area, a police official said.

The incident was reported around 5 AM and the two guards were rushed to the Trauma Centre, where Kumar was declared dead on arrival and the other guard, Arjun (25), was admitted with severe injuries, the official added.

The errant driver fled the spot after the incident. The vehicle, however, has been tracked by the police and a team is searching the potential whereabouts of the accused.

Kumar was a native of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh and lived here with his elder brother Ram, who rushed to the spot immediately.

"The police have registered a case of rash driving and causing death by negligence. Investigation is underway," the official added.
