2300 prisoners lodged in JK jails: Govt

Jammu and Kashmir government today said that 2300 prisoners including 343 convicts, 37 under PSA and 1920 undertrials are lodged in jails in the state.

While replying to a question by Ali Mohammad Dar, on behalf of the Chief Minister in the Legislative Council today, the Minister for Horticulture, Abdul Rehman Veeri said that 2300 prisoners are lodged in the jails of J&K including 343 convicts, 37 under Public Safety Act (PSA) and 1920 undertrials.

Out of 37 PSA detenus, 17 are locals and 20 are foreigners, he said.

Veeri further said that no Indian prisoner who has completed his term of sentence is lodged in jails of the state.
