24 held for dumping medical waste in Coimbatore farm

A local court here remanded 24 persons to judicial custody today, for their alleged involvement in dumping of medical waste, brought from Kerala, at a farm land near here.

All those arrested were produced before the judicial magistrate, who remanded them till November 10.

Owner of the farm land, Chellappan and Mohammed Iliyas, the contractor from Kerala who had taken the land on lease for segregation, recycling and selling the waste to prospective customers, were arrested.

Meanwhile, 22 drivers of the seized lorries, were arrested from various parts of Kerala last night.

All the accused were lodged in the central prison here.
 

On October 25, 24 trucks with medical waste, meant to be taken to a private farm in Nellikode, for segregation and recycle, were seized.
