More than 24 lakh farmers benefited from crop insurance schemes during 2012-13, Parliament was informed today.
Maharashtra has the highest number of farmers who benefited from crop insurance schemes at 13.18 lakh, followed by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with 6.91 lakh and 2.74 lakh respectively, Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Tariq Anwar said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
Crop insurance covers the risk factor in agriculture.

"Under crop insurance schemes in 2012-13, a total of 24,65,005 farmers benefited," Anwar said.
Continued efforts are being made to create awareness about crop insurance schemes, the Minister added.
