A sessions court today acquitted 24 of the 25 accused in connection with the 1992 attack on the convoy of the then Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad.

Acquitting the 24 persons, the district and sessions judge (7), Satya Prakash, reserved the judgement on another accused on technical ground. His records were not examined.

A total of 42 JMM leaders and activists had been made accused after the attack on October 29, 1992 when Prasad's convoy was returning to Dhanbad from Raiganj.

Eight accused have since died while the rest were declared absconding.

Prasad was returning to Dhanbad from Rajganj after inspecting a road when stones were hurled on his car, the incident having probably to do with his stand against creation of a separate state of Jharkhand.

The accused were there to attend a meeting of JMM supremo Shibu Soren.

Among 19 witnesses, only sub-Inspector of Govindpur police station Mahesh Ram Paswan, the informer of the case, turned up in the court.
