A 24-year-old woman was today found dead under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Vasundra Colony in the district, police said.

The deceased, identified as Pinki, a resident of Khichdipur area of East Delhi, who along with one Dilip Kumar took a hotel room on July 14, they said.

"As per hotel staff's statement, Pinki and Kumar told them that they had returned from Shirdi and would stay for two days in the hotel. This afternoon, Dilip told hotel staff that he was going to bring some food from outside. When he did not return, they try to contact him but his phone was switched off," a senior police officer said.

When the hotel staff checked his room they found Pinki's dead body on the bed, police said, adding she was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.

"As per initial investigation, she might have been strangled to death as police have recovered an electric wire from the spot. Some marks have also been found on Pinki's neck," he added.

Police have sent her body for medical examination and launched a manhunt to nab Dilip, who is absconding since the incident.
