The Excise department today seized 240 cartons of liqour and arrested three persons in this connection from a locality under Saraiya police station area in Bihar's Muzaffarpur district.

Acting on a tip off, a team of excise officers intercepted a container and seized 240 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liqour (IMFL) from the vehicle, Excise Superintendent Deenbandhu said.

The seized consignment of liqour, valued at Rs 50 lakh, was brought from Haryana by a local liqour trader Pramod Rai who has been arrested, he said.

The container's driver and helper too were arrested and booked for illegal transporation of liqour into Bihar where manufacturing, marketing and consumption of alcohol are banned since April last year, the Excise official said.
