243 hectares of forest land encroached in Jammu: J-K min

Jammu and Kashmir government today said that 243 hectares of forest land have been encroached in Jammu city where seven cases have been registered and 52 cases are lodged in the courts.

The total recorded encroachment on the forest land in Jammu city and outskirts of Jammu district is 243 hectares out of which 99 hectares have been removed so far, state forest Minister Choudhary Lal Singh said in reply to the question of BJP MLA Rajesh Gupta in Assembly today.

In addition to above encroachments, unrecorded and fresh attempts of encroachments to the tune of 205 hectares have been evicted during the last two years in Jammu city and outskirts.
 

In this regard, seven cases have been registered, he said, adding that three persons have been injured while removing encroachments apart from four vehicles damaged during the drive.

As many as 52 court cases have been lodged and four cases have been decided in favour of the forest department by the court, he said.
