Twenty-five big check dams have been constructed in 11 forest areas as part of conservation of water in Jharkhand, a senior forest official said here today.

Launching water conservation campaign by non-governmental organisation Vikas Bharati on the eve of World Environment Day, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Dr A K Malhotra said here that several other check dams were being constructed in all forest areas.

Stating that Jharkhand was green and there was hardly any water problem 20 years ago, he said, the climate change has affected the forest land and to deal with the situation, check dams would be built in all the forest areas.

A total 25 big check dams were built this year, he said, adding several check dams would be constructed next year to check rain water from running off.
