At least 25 girls were taken ill after they drank contaminated water in their school in Paigaon area here.
The girls belonging to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya were hospitalised yesterday after they showed symptoms of food poisoning, Deputy District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar said.
A team of doctors from the health department's control room went to the school and found that a submersible pump, which is the primary source of drinking water in the school, is submerged in rainwater which could have led to contamination.
While seven girls were admitted to the district hospital, five girls were treated at Community Health Centre. Others were discharged after treatment, he said.
