As many as 25 people were hospitalised today after they drank water from a well, which is suspected to be contaminated, in the scarcity-hit Kundiya village near here, an officer said.

The villagers drank water from the well as three hand pump-operated borewells in the village were not functional, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) C S Solanki said.

According to the officer, the affected persons started vomiting, had loose motions and experienced uneasiness.

While 24 people were admitted to a nearby hospital, another person was shifted to Petlawad tehsil headquarters for better treatment.

"The condition of the 15 women and 10 men, who have been admitted to hospitals, is out of danger," he said.

Solanki said the sample of water from the well has been sent for examination.

He said water in the well is being treated with disinfectants.

The officer said water will now be supplied daily to the village, which is facing acute water shortage, through bowsers.

A medical team has been deputed in the village.
