In a major haul, Central agencies have seized around 25 kg of gold from two different places in West Bengal and arrested four persons, official sources said today.
Acting on specific information sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence raided a place at Sevoke Road in Siliguri town and seized 20 kg of gold last evening, they said.
The seized gold is valued at about Rs 5.4 crore in the market, the sources said.
The DRI sleuths arrested two men for smuggling the yellow metal, they said.
The two men had brought the gold from Jaigaon in Bhutan to Siliguri, which serves as the gateway to the north east, for smuggling it to other places, the sources added.
They were produced before a local court which remanded them to DRI custody for seven days.
The Customs Intelligence unit seized 5 kg of gold valued at about Rs 1.5 crore from Howrah station area and arrested two persons last night.
Acting on a tip off, the customs sleuths nabbed the two, when they were trying to board an Allahabad bound train from Howrah station last night, the sources said.
After frisking their baggage, the officials seized about five kg of gold. Both of them were arrested, the sources added.
