25 killed in Chandrapur floods so far

Twenty-five people have been killed in the devastating floods and heavy rains in the district in the past fortnight, officials said here today.

The district received an average rainfall of 1375.6 mm this monsoon season so far. The heavy rains have affected normal life in 1,007 villages in the district, killing 25 people, preliminary reports from the survey being conducted by the district officials have revealed.

11,558 families were affected due to the floods, of which 4,092 were shifted to safer places, the district administration said in a statement.

1,594 houses in the district collapsed due to the rains, while 9,946 houses were partially damaged, it added.
 

The administration has distributed Rs 16.62 lakh as interim aid to those rendered homeless, while Rs 27 lakh have been distributed to the kin of the deceased. 88 cattle perished due to the floods, it claimed.

Though there is respite from rains today, the district received an average rainfall of 30.04 mm in the past 24 hrs, met officials said.

Normal to heavy rains have been forecast in the district in the next 48 hours.
