A 250-MW solar power plant pump storage project will come up in Bagmundi area of West Bengal's Purulia district under Pump Storage Project (PSP) model, state power minister Manish Gupta said.
"In the exsiting 900 MW Bagmundi Pump Storage Project the 250 MW solar panels will be placed. The solar power produced by these solar panels will be used to draw the water from the lake situated below to another situated above.
"This way we will save the grid power that is being used to lift the water to the higher lake whose water is used for producing hydro electricity," Gupta said on the sidelines of an event here.
Gupta said more such solar pannels will be placed in Bagmundi phase-wise.
"We have also plans of placing solar panels in 1,000-MW PSP project in Turga and Bunda in Purulia district," he said.
In order to make solar power more viable and popular among urban people in Bengal, Gupta said highrises in Rajarhat have been asked to install solar panels on their roof tops.
"If they (highrises) install solar pannels they will get a discount in their house plans. We have also plans to follow the same method in new highrises coming up in Howrah too," the Minister added.
