26 college hospitalised in AP on suspected food poisoning

As many as 26 students of a government polytechnic collage here were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning.

The condition of two students is critical and they are undergoing treatment at a private hospital while others were admitted in government hospital at Proddatur in Kadapa district.

The incident occurred on Friday night after the students ate curd rice in the hostel of the college, following which many of them started vomiting.

While twelve students were admitted to government hospital on Friday night itself, another fourteen students today morning.

Ravi and Sivateja, who are in critical condition, were admitted in two private hospitals by their parents.
 

When contacted, collage principal Sudhakar Reddy said the hostel was being maintained by the student committees only and there is no role of college staff in the incident.

However, district medical and health officer Veera Kumar said after inspecting the hostel that "the incident was due to contaminated water. The water tank from which students drink water is covered with moss.
