26 Congressmen booked in connection with polling day violence

At least 26 Congress party activists were booked today in connection with the burning of eight vehicles, belonging to the ruling Akali Dal supporters in Lambi area of the district, police said.

The incident took place yesterday at Manna village when the Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad polls were underway in the state.

The activists, including Baljinder Harmit Singh, a sitting sarpanch (village head) had been booked for setting ablaze eight luxury vehicles belonging to Akali Dal supporters, they said.

The district administration today clamped section 144 of IPC, banning the gathering of five or more persons in the area.
 

Meanwhile, a Congress deputation led by Maheshinder Singh Badal, cousin of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, submitted a memorandum to Muktsar SSP and SDM seeking justice to the booked party leaders.
