265 killed at level crossings in last two years

265 persons were killed in accidents at level crossings in the last two years, Rajya Sabha was told today.

While 104 persons were killed in 2013-14, 161 lost their lives in 2014-15 at level crossings, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said in a written reply.

He said 65 were killed till January this year.

Out of 19,047 manned level crossings, 12,560 qualify for interlocking system. 871 level crossings were interlocked since 2013.

There are 10,400 unmanned level crossings in the country.
