27 arrested for drinking liquor in public place in Delhi

Twenty seven people were arrested in the National Capital by the Excise department for consuming liquor in public places as part of its drive against open drinking, taking the number of violators to 149 in last four days.

According to the Excise department, the arrests were made from Shahdara, Ambedkar Nagar, Connaught Place, Safdarjung Enclave, Hari Nagar, Samaipur Badli, Adarsh Nagar, Dwarka, New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar.

"Twenty seven violators were arrested on Thursday for illegal consumption of liquor in public spaces on the fourth day of Delhi Government Excise Department's special drive to crackdown on this menace in the national capital," said a senior government official.
 

The action was taken against the violators under section 40 of the Delhi Excise Act and they were handed over to Delhi Police in different Police Stations for further action as per law.

On Wednesday, the department had arrested 45 people for the violation while on Tuesday 41 were held for drinking liquor in public places.
