27 per cent deficiency in monsoon rainfall in Kerala

There was a deficiency of 27 per cent rainfall during the current monsoon season in Kerala, State Water Resources Minister Mathew T Thomas told the assembly today.

The shortfall was as per the rainfall records between June and August nine, Minister said during question hour.

The water level in dams in the state have also dropped following deficiency in rainfall.

The shortfall was five to 10 meter low when compared to the water level in the same period last year, he said.

Steps to protect and preserve water resources to tide over the situation would be implemented on time bound basis, he added.
