A 27-year-old nurse, who was in advanced stage of pregnancy, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her house in West Delhi's Pashchim Vihar area in wee hours today.

Police got a call around 2:30 AM about the incident following which a team rushed to the house where the nurse identified as Princy was living with her husband Seju.

Princy, who hailed from Kerala, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead.

She was working as a nurse in a hospital in the locality while her husband Seju runs a South Indian restaurant in the area and supplied food in two hospitals.

No suicide note has been recovered from the spot, police said, adding prima facie it seems to be a case of suicide but the exact cause is being ascertained.

"It has so far not emerged that there was anything seriously wrong between the couple. They had small tiffs like every other married couple. There was no prior police complaint about any quarrel from Princy but what caused her to take the extreme step is not known," police said.

The couple was married in 2011 and as they were married for less than seven years, an SDM inquiry has been initiated in the case, a senior police official said.

Under Section 174 CrPC, if a woman dies within seven years of her marriage, an SDM inquest is initiated in the case. If the SDM finds any foul play, he would direct the police to file an FIR and probe the case.

Their neighbours have told investigators that the couple did not interact with them much.
