28,000 flood-affected people rescued in various states: NDRF

Over 28,000 flood victims have been rescued or evacuated from various affected parts of the country till now, the NDRF today said.

In the wake of the monsoon and floods season, the central force has deployed multiple teams in Assam, Gujarat, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal to undertake rescue and relief operations.

"So far, National Disaster Response Force teams have evacuated or rescued more than 28,950 persons and provided medical assistance to 3,529 people this monsoon season. Operations are still continuing," the force said in a statement.

It said 7,296 people in Bihar, 5,184 in Assam, 2,510 in Uttar Pradesh and 2,484 in West Bengal have been evacuated till now to safer locations.
 

A 24x7 control room at the force headquarters here is closely monitoring the situation and in touch with other agencies, it added.
