28-yr-old arrested for duping unemployed youths

A 28-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly duping unemployed youths by posing as a senior executive with a prominent job portal, police said.

According to police, Raju Mukherjee was nabbed by from DDU Hospital on Monday. He is alleged to have cheated at least 15 youths, including several Delhi University students, on the pretext of getting them jobs.

He came under the police radar on November 16 after allegedly robbing a 20-year-old student of Dayal Singh College, police said.

"The victim told us that she had received a call from a person claiming to represent a job portal. He offered her a part-time job with a handsome salary and asked her to give him Rs 5,500 as interview fees. He later took the girl to a photo studio in the area to get her photographs clicked for a form.
 

"As she went inside the shop, he asked her for her Blackberry mobile phone saying that his cellphone was not working. When she came out of the studio, the accused had fled with her phone and the money," said Deputy Commissioner of Police, SBS Tyagi.

Following a complaint, police traced Mukherjee using technical surveillance and he was arrested on Monday evening from near Deen Dayal Updhayay hospital, he said.

Mukherjee was arrested before, in 2009, in a cheating case at Rajouri Garden Metro Police Station.

During questioning, Raju is said to have told police that he called job aspirants from STD/PCO booths, posing as an executive officer or as a casting crew member working in Bollywood. As he had a good command of English, people used to easily fall into his trap, police added.
