A total of 2,851 students belonging to minority communities have availed benefits of the Centre's 'Padho Pardesh' scheme, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Under the scheme, interest subsidy is offered to students from the minority communities on educational loans taken for pursuing overseas studies like masters and MPhil/PhD.

"As on 30.11.2017, total number of 2,851 minority students (including renewals) have availed the benefit of interest subsidy under the scheme," Union Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told the Lower House.

The scheme was launched in 2013-14 under the 'Prime Minister's 15-Point Programme'.
