As many as 286 people, including political leaders, have been provided with security cover under various categories by the Central government based on threat perceptions, the government told the Rajya Sabha today.
Another 21 people have been provided with central armed forces security based on recommendation of states, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said during Question Hour.
"286 people have been provided with security under Z-plus, Z, Y and X security categories. States have also asked for providing security to some people. 21 people have been provided with central armed forces by the Centre, based on recommendations of state governments," Rijiju said.

He said wherever there is any threat, all necessary steps are being taken and wherever necessary, security has been provided as per threat perception formula.
Replying to supplementaries during Question Hour, the minister said from time to time, there are reports received about the threat perception based on intelligence inputs about the security of various political leaders of this country.
Asked about details of political leaders provided with security in last two years, he said it is a process and the government wants all should get security as per the policy.
He said there are four categories of security and there is a format and threat inputs are taken from IB and state government and then security preparations are made.
