Police today arrested 29 persons on charges of pelting stones at six policemen and hurting them, after the latter reached the Nandan Nagar area last night, to rescue a few women from being harassed by drunkards.
Acting on a tip-off last night, a police team reached Nandan Nagar area to save a few women being harassed by drunkards after which they were pelted stones, causing them injuries, Chandan Nagar police station in-charge Vinod Dixit told PTI.
The police had to fire teargas shells to control the situation, he said, adding that, six policemen, including two sub inspectors were injured in the incident.
After controlling the situation, the police arrested 29 miscreants today under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and Section 353 (preventing government employee from performing his duties and attack them criminal intent) and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, he said.
