A top officer of Datacom Solutions (P) Ltd in which Videocon holds 64 percent of equity spoke about advance intimation of the LoIs being distributed on January 10, 2008.

Ajay Sharma, Vice President of Datacom Solutions (P) Ltd, a prosecution witness in the 2G spectrum case, deposed before Special CBI Judge O P Saini that being authorised signatory of the company, he was called by the DoT on January 10, 2008 and informed about distribution of LOIs for which he had reached Sanchar Bhawan at 12.35 PM on that day.

His deposition assumes importance as two DoT officials, who had deposed as CBI witnesses in last two days, had said they were not aware till 3.30 PM that they had gathered at the conference hall of Sanchar Bhawan to distribute the LoIs for 2G spectrum allocation to telecom firms.

Ashok Kumar Dhar, a retired DoT official and DoT's Assistant Director General Bharat Lal Panwar had testified that they were not briefed in advance about the process of distribution of LoIs.

In his deposition, the Datacom official said, "I was to reach the conference hall of DoT for collecting the LOIs at 3:30 PM, but I reached the DoT office a little before that (12:35 PM). When I reached conference hall, representatives of some companies were already present there. We were asked to sit over there." (MORE)
