: About 3.3 metric tons of rotten mutton that was brought by the Jaipur express was seized and later incinerated at a dumpyard, police said.
As soon as the train arrived at the station today, a foul smell emanated from the goods wagon. Railway Police conducted checks and that the mutton cargo did not have address of either the consignor or consignee.
They alerted Chennai Corporation authorities. Soon health officials removed the cargo to Kodungayur dumpyard after declaring it unfit for human consumption and it was incinerated there.
Police said low cost mutton was being imported from Rajasthan and other places to Tamil Nadu. However the quality was often below standards, they said.
