At least three 13th century antique stone idols were stolen from the famous Chandrasekhar Jew Temple located at Kapilash in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, police said.

The matter came to light this morning when priests found the three idols - Bhairav, Ganesh and Durga, not in their places in the temple.

While the idols of Ganesh and Durga were placed on both sides of the entrance of the temple, Bhairav idol was installed at a distance from the main temple within the premises.

The entire temple was under the supervision of the ASI. The idols were around 700 years old, the police said.

"We have received a complaint from the temple. We will soon nab the persons involved in the idol theft," said Raj Kishore Dora, the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Dhenkanal.

In December last year, some miscreants had stolen ornaments from the idol of Goddess Parvati in the same temple.
