At least three army men, including an officer, were killed and as many injured today in a roadside bomb blast in Egypt's restive North Sinai governorate.
The bomb was planted by masked militants near the Rafah-Al-Arish International Road in North Sinai and exploded when an army vehicle passed by it, according to a security source.
An army officer and two conscripts were killed and three others were critically injured, a medical source said.
The injured were immediately transferred to the hospital and bomb experts are searching for other bombs in the area.
Egypt's Sinai has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the January 2011 revolution that toppled ex-president Hosni Mubarak.
The attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.
Over 500 security personnel have been reported killed since then.
The military has launched security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished houses that belong to terrorists, including those facilitating tunnels leading to the Gaza Strip.
