Three men have been arrested for allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint in Delhi's Connaught Place area last week, police said on Wednesday.

The two involved in the armed robbery, which took place in broad daylight on August 9, were identified as Pawan (35), a resident of Haryana's Sonipat, and Sandeep (32), a resident of Rohtak, they said.

Shamsuddin (45), of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, has also been arrested for supplying firearms to the two men, the police said.

Three sophisticated pistols were seized from Shamsuddin, they added.

An employee of a money changer was robbed at gun point in Connaught Place. Three men took away the bag containing cash but one of them was caught by public while trying to flee, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajiv Ranjan said.

The bag containing cash of Rs 50,000 was also recovered from the spot. The arrested accused was identified as Deepak, while his other two associates managed to escape, the officer said.

Following a tip off, Pawan and Sandeep were arrested from Narela on August 11, the officer added.

During interrogation, they revealed that their associate had passed on the information regarding movement of cash in Connaught Place. It was expected that around Rs 1020 lakhs could be intercepted in transit. On the day of incident as per plan, the gang reached the area on motorcycles, the senior officer said.

Sandeep and Pawan were carrying weapons. Deepak and Pawan robbed the bag containing cash at gun point and started running. However, the money changer's employee raised alarm and the public helped in catching Deepak at the spot, the police said.
