Three persons were arrested today for allegedly ransacking police vehicles during a demonstration to demand compensation for a deceased mason at Naskarpara in New Town Police station area, on the outskirts of city.

Two police vehicles were damaged when security forces reached the spot where people set fire to the office room of an IT company at the construction site of its multi-storey building this morning, the police said.

They were arrested for arson when they demonstrated and demanded compensation for the mason who died yesterday after falling from the seventh floor of the building under construction.

Labourers staged a demonstration at the site demanding compensation from the IT company for which the mason was working.

It turned ugly after heated arguments between the company officials and labourers, who in turn set ablaze the office-room, police said.

Two fire engines rushed the spot to control the fire, they added.
