3 arrested for evading custom duty on 3 kg gold get bail

Three persons, including a woman, arrested by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for evading customs duty of over Rs 84 lakh on nearly three kg gold recovered from them, have been granted bail by a Delhi court which said their previous antecedents were reportedly clean.

Metropolitan Magistrate Akash Jain released Heera Singh, Hans Raj Singh and Kulvinder Kaur on furnishing a bail bond of Rs one lakh each an one surety of like amount.

The magistrate also imposed several conditions on the trio including that they will join the investigation as and when directed by DRI officials and will not leave the country without prior permission of the court.
 

"Even assuming the offence complained against the accused as non-bailable in terms of provisions of the Customs Act, the accused persons are reportedly in judicial custody since November 3, 2013 and their previous antecedents are reported to be clean by the SIO, as per his knowledge.

"Further, taking stock of the facts, circumstances of the case... All the accused are admitted to bail," the court said.

According to DRI, the three accused were arrested after 2990.28 kg gold worth Rs 84,67,655 was recovered from their possession.
