3 arrested for motorcycle theft

Three persons, including a participant of a popular TV show, have been arrested in connection with the cases of motorcycle theft in Vasant Kunj area of south Delhi, police said today.

With their arrest, police has claimed to have solved 21 cases of motorcycle theft and recovered eight bikes from their possession.

In view of rise in the vehicle thefts specially Royal Enfield motorcycles in Vasant Kunj and Malviya Nagar areas, a police team was formed that got information about a gang moving around on a stolen motorbikes on Aruna Asaf Ali Road on November 29.

Later, during vehicle checking, 29-year-old Rohit was arrested with the stolen motorcycle while he was heading from Katwaria Sarai to Kishangarh, at a police picket, DCP (South), Ishwar Singh said.
 

Rohit disclosed that he along with his associates Pardeep and Sandeep Chauhan was allegedly involved in many auto lifting cases and used to target Royal Enfield bikes only.

On his instance, five more stolen motorcycles were recovered.

Next day, Sandeep, 29, was also arrested from Vasant Kunj.

They told police that they use to sell the stolen bikes to one Akil of Sarai Kale Khan.

Based on which 30-year-old Akil was also arrested from Sarai Kale Khan railway station and one stolen bike was recovered from his possession, said the officer.

Rohit is a dancer and had participated in the show India's Got Talent. He was earlier arrested in snatching cases and found to be involved in 22 cases of vehicle theft and snatching, he said.

Akil used to dispose off stolen vehicles to his contacts in Meerut, where he belonged to. He was also allegedly involved in a case of dacoity at a petrol pump in Vivek Vihar in which Rs 63 lakh were looted.

Sandeep is a Judo trainer and was recently released from Tihar jail. He was allegedly involved in nearly two dozen vehicle lifting and snatching cases, Singh added.
