3 arrested for opium smuggling in Haryana's Sirsa

Police today arrested three persons and seized 50 kg of opium from them near Umedpur area in Haryana's Sirsa district.

The accused were allegedly trying to smuggle the opium in a car which was intercepted by the police at a checkpost in Umedpur.

"After spotting the police, the accused tried to make a U-turn. The police team chased the car and nabbed the three accused while two managed to escape," a police official said.

"On searching the vehicle, the police found 50 kg opium that was being smuggled by them," the official said.

The accused have been identified as Sukhram, a native of Churu in Rajasthan, Krishan alias Kalia of Taranagar, and Satbir of Ellenabad, police said.

 

A case has been registered against the accused at Ellenabad police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the official said.
